8 Things I Want to Teach My Children

My Thoughts:
Every time I see a little girl about my son's age in our church, I can't help but look into the future. I see the possibility of a future where our family might be connected with their family in a whole new way. For one day my small little man will choose a bride or in the case of my husband and I, a bride will choose him.  I know, go ahead and shake your head in disbelief because he is only 10 months old, but I am constantly reminded by good people how fast the next 18 years will go by. I believe them.

So, when I see these small sweet girls, I pray. I pray for their mommies and daddies that they train up this beautiful child for the Lord. One day not only to be a great christian but also most likely a future wife. In all probability not my son's wife, but someone son's wife.
I also am led to pray for my husband and I, that we raise up our little boy to be a strong christian man and most likely a future loving husband and father. So, one day he will be good enough for someone else's little girl. Moms and dads it is so important to pray for our babies! Especially that they come to know the Lord as their personal Saviour and that they grow to be all God desires for them!
Dear stay at home mom, you may feel irrelevant to what is going on in this world. We end up so secluded from it, but we are teaching, raising up and training the next generation of great Christians! Young ones who will one day be missionaries, pastors, pastors wives and Christian parents who pass down these same values and virtues to their children. Don't be deceived this job is so important! Great men in history so often had great mothers and wives behind the scenes praying them through! You are needed and you are doing a work for the LORD in your family.
All this to say...
Here are 8 things I want to pass down to my children:
I want to lead them to the sweet, sweet Saviour, Jesus.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life no man cometh unto the father but by me!
Home Life:
I want to teach them that home is a sacred place, a secure, safe place from the trials and troubles of the world. So, one day they can create the same peaceful, serene environment for their little ones.
The Bible says, "Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: and by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches." Isn't that absolutely beautiful?
Loving Others:
I want to teach them about love, sweet charity and kindness. Oh, the kindhearted how they are lacking in this world! Teach your children by example to see every person with the eyes of Jesus. What is this person going through today? How could I help them? A smile, a kind word... Teach them this.
The Bible says, "...Love thy neighbour as thyself..."
Standing Up:
I want my children to learn to stand on their convictions and principles without  being judgmental. Convictions are so important in each Christians life. I pray my children share mine and have some of their own too. Convictions without condemnation. This is how Jesus lived and loved!
The Bible says, "For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through him might be saved." There are obvious commandments in the Bible for everyone and then there are personal convictions for individuals. I want my children to realize this.
Jesus Loves You:
I want to teach my children to cast all their cares on Jesus! So, much stress in life would be relieved if we did as God told us and gave him our worries, cares and fears.
The Bible says, "Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you."
Saving and Giving:
I want to teach my little ones to budget vigorously and save like every penny is the last. Then without a second thought hand the man with the cardboard sign money. Giving because God is good and he gave to us first so much more.
The Bible says, "I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."
I would like to teach my children to be wise. Ah, the sweetness of that mother so long ago imparting wisdom to her son in Proverbs 31:2-9. She taught him wisdom so he would be ready to be a good husband for his future Proverbs 31 wife! Vise versa teaching our girls to be sweet wives for their future princes in shining armor. The Bible says in the beginning of Proverbs 31"...the prophecy that his mother taught him. What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings. It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction. Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy." This was a mother teaching her son to be wise!
Coming Home:
Lastly, I want to ingrain in my kids, my sweet ones that like their heavenly father no matter what they do and no matter where they go they can count on their mom and dad. Going through life with the knowledge they can always come home. We will always be there for them with prayers and anything they may need. Disowning is not in this parents vocabulary.
The Bible says, "I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him."
